Janet Leister Joins WSDA International Marketing Manager

 June, 1997

OLYMPIA -- The Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) announced the hiring of a new manager of the agency's International Marketing department. Janet Cole Leister has joined WSDA after spending the past five years as an economic development specialist for international marketing with the Hawaii Department of Agriculture.

"We are excited to have Janet on our staff She brings some great skills with her that we think will strengthen our marketing program," Jim Jesernig, Director of WSDA, said. "Coming from Hawaii, she has experience with marketing diverse agricultural products throughout the world and dealing with economic and trade barriers. Washington's growers and producers have a new ally in their pursuit of new markets."

Prior to her work with the Hawaii Department of Agriculture, Leister worked in community-based economic development for Hawaii's Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism, served as a marketing administrator for Cades, Schutte, Fleming & Wright Attorneys at Law in Honolulu, and worked as an assistant dean and professor at Hawaii Pacific University. She earned a master's in business administration in 1987 and a master's in English as a Second Language in 1977, both from the University of Hawaii. Her bachelor's degree in international affairs is from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

"Diversity, quality, and reliability of Washington's agricultural products make our state a major player overseas. It's my goal to work closely with industry and assist them in making export sales so that Washington becomes even a stronger competitor in the international arena," Leister said. "Every export sale made by Washington farmers and processors enhances economic development and creates jobs for our state. That's why I feel so strongly about international marketing."
